[badge value=”EN”] MartialArts Association Canada (MAC) we have been organizing the annual Martial Arts Festival at Improve, Canada’s first and largest home improvement centre. This year our Martial Arts Festival consist of 2 parts:

Part A, the opening ceremony and the excellent performances by the top class martial arts masters from the famous Wudang Mountains, and the young team of Wayland Wushu Academy, a top school in Canada, and other international martial arts.
Part B, the free style Taichi Push Hands competition.

Part A took place already on 29 Sept 2018, while we are now working on Part B: Taichi Push Hands competition, so this page only provides detailed info about Part B.

What is Push Hands ? It is a practice method of Taichi, a dynamic and powerful interaction between 2 students. It is similar to the sport of wrestling.
What is Push Hands Competition world finale? It is the 2019 World Finale (DQS Push Hands Competition in China), a large event in Da Qing Shan (i.e. Daqingshan or DQS) Mountain, a mountain sport resort along the Yellow Sea seaside in Shandong Peninsula China in April 2019. The World Finale prize including cash will be awarded to top winners by organizer in China and sponsors in Rizhao city, nearby the well known tourism destination Qingdao(German name as Tsingtau), a coastal city in China where 2008 Summer Olympics Sailing/Yachting took place(Qingdao International Sailing Centre).
Do I qualify ? You do not need to have any Taichi background, no previous qualification required, because the Competition Rule is so simple, so the Push Hands Competition is for everyone. We will prepare you with free training, see the Workshop Schedule below.
I want to compete, what is the procedure ? A. you register; B. you attend the free training workshop to learn Push Hands and the rules; C. if you will be selected to be a Team Canada member, you will be offered uniform and flight to China to win the world title. Contestant Benefit details as below.

Workshop Schedule:

This workshop is for the beginners and to prepare the Push Hands Competition.

Time: 6 Jan 2019 Sunday, 9:00-10:00am(Form), 10:00-11:00am(Push Hands)
Location: Bayview Hill Community Centre, 114 Spadina Rd, Richmond Hill, ON L4B 2Y9
Fee: free of charge

Contestant Benefit:

Admission fee is free for general public audience. We welcome everyone to see the dynamic of Push Hands Competition, in depth workshop and seminars led by experts.

Every audience also has an opportunity to win the cash prize of $5000 provided by Improve mall to purchase products in any shops in the mall.

Registration fee $30 for contestant, who wants to win this Push Hands Competition(Canadian Competition):

Same as audience, all contestants also have a chance to win $5000 offered by Improve mall.
Contestant who wins this Canadian Competition, will qualify as Team Canada member to go for the 2019 World Finale (DQS Push Hands Competition in China), a large event in Da Qing Shan (i.e. Daqingshan or DQS) Mountain, a mountain sport resort along the Yellow Sea seaside in Shandong Peninsula China in April 2019. The top 1 winner of the final match will be awarded the title as Canada Champion. In addition to the benefits listed above(2), the top 1 winner will be also awarded a 3 weeks free accommodation in DQS Mountain resort: free hotel and food during the World Finale, also win free round trip flight to China from Canada, plus a free training program led by famous Taichi instructor.

About Joseph Chen Zhonghua (陈中华)[badge value=”EN”]

Joseph Chen Zhonghua (陈中华), courtesy name Dongliang (栋梁), born in 1961, Shandong Province, China, is a Chinese martial arts practitioner, teacher and author. Chen studied with two outstanding eighteenth generation Chen Style Taijiquan (陳式太極拳) experts, Hong Junsheng (洪均生; 1907 – 1996) and Feng Zhiqiang (冯志强, 1928-2012). He and his family emigrated to Canada in 1985. This has allowed him to actively promote Hong’s transmission of Chen t’ai chi ch’uan(also known as the Practical Method) through his students, seminars, books, instructional videos and websites around the world. In 2005, he was designated the International Standard Bearer of Hong’s Practical Method by the Hong family in a ceremony held in Jinan (济南), China. Since 2006, Chen has run a residential taijiquan training program on Daqingshan (“Big Green Mountain”; 大青山), Shandong Province (山东省), China. Martial arts enthusiast from all over the world can train according to traditional Chen taijiquan methods following the lineage from Chen Fake to Hong and Feng。
